SCREEN IN SCHOOLS

NaTiOnal saturday club

We are currently working in partnership with the National Saturday Club to deliver Director Masterclasses to young people aged 13-16 in the Nations and Regions.

directors’ masterclasses

We are looking to build a database of screen directors to run paid Masterclasses for young people in the Nations and Regions of the UK. These will take place in classroom or afterschool club settings, including Saturday clubs.

We are aiming to:-

  • Encourage and inspire young people to develop their film making practice, their skills as screen storytellers and a deeper understanding of what the Director can offer.

  • Provide screen directors with Mentorship roles and a robust support network.

  • We are looking to create a roster of Directors who can supply Masterclasses (max 6 hours) across the UK (dates and venues tbc).

If you are interested, please contact our coordinator Alexandra Harris by email.

INTO FILM

Our vibrant and successful ‘4 Nations’ pilot project, took place in schools in Stratford-Upon-Avon, Bridgend, Edinburgh & Belfast.

We partnered professional directors with schoolteachers and students to enrich their learning through exploring the processes of film making. Each partnership focused on a specific artistic style, technique or area of production including documentary, comedy, writing for screen, editing, shot types and sound.

"Just wanted to quickly let you know how fantastic our first 'Get Directing!' workshop with Sion was. The children had such a great time and learnt so much from him. We all thoroughly enjoyed the session - it flew by. Sion chatted through the plan for each session with me a few days prior to coming to Penybont. The lesson was really well resourced and he was amazing with the pupils. I'm delighted. Thanks again for setting this up for me. We can't wait for the next one."

In 2022, Director ANDREW GUNN led a workshop with lucky Year 10 students at Rudheath Senior Academy, Northwich, Cheshire. This was part of their “creative drop down day” which aimed to give them the experience of various creative media. Andrew ran workshops on filmmaking and directing, using his wide experience to inspire the students. This fits with our aim at GET DIRECTING! of lighting the flame that will see the next generation of storytellers emerge.
